Hello!

Today I want to tell you one of my favorite stories:

How I secured my job at Goldman Sachs.

When you’re studying finance in London:

Securing a job is just as important as your coursework (maybe even more important).

Especially if you’re aiming for the best:

Front-office roles in investment banks, asset managers, private equity, or hedge funds.

It’s a numbers game, and you have to be the best.

You send endless applications, write tailored cover letters (no AI back then!), and compete with top students from all over Europe - and even the U.S. - for the same roles.

I was fortunate to study at the London School of Economics, a target school for the industry.

But even with that advantage, it was tough.

For months, I sent several applications daily.

It seemed to me that I was sending them into a black hole.

Silence. No replies. The longer it went on, the more concerned I became.

Was all the effort worth it? Am I doing something wrong?

Finally, my first breakthrough:

An interview invitation at one of the top bulge bracket banks.

I passed round after round - over 10 interviews!

Then I got a call - rejected after the final interview.

I sat on the side of my bed, feeling devastated.

But I had no choice but to keep going.

Soon, another chance came - a boutique investment bank in the City of London.

Again, I made it to the final round and…

Another rejection. It stung.

I knew I couldn’t let my emotions get in the way. I kept going.

Then came Nomura, one of Japan’s top investment banks.

I cleared all the rounds and waited for the final decision.

While I was waiting, I received an email:

Wow.

Not just Goldman Sachs, but their ultra-competitive Private Wealth Management division.

This was the team that works directly with the world’s wealthiest individuals and family offices.

I dove into the interview process. Round after round, I gave it my all.

Then I was again waiting for replies (still without an offer in hand!).

Suddenly, one day during a lecture, I got a call.

It was Nomura - they offered me the job!

My first win.

Relief washed over me.

But I took some time to think about the offer. Why?

Because in the back of my mind, I couldn’t stop thinking about Goldman.

A few days later, another call. This time, it was Goldman Sachs.

They were offering me the job.

That moment felt surreal.

Goldman’s acceptance rate is under 1%.

For Private Wealth Management, it’s even smaller.

I HAD MADE IT!

Here is the picture from my time there:

The lesson? Never give up.

Persistence and resilience are everything.

Whether it’s landing a dream job or succeeding in business, nothing worthwhile comes easy.

Keep pushing.

The rewards are worth it.

Eventually, I left Goldman and moved to a more senior role at another firm.

However, looking back, I couldn’t have asked for a better company for both personal and professional growth.

I realized that no matter where I was, the most important thing was the determination to keep going, even when things didn’t go as planned.

Have this mindset, and you simply can’t lose.

It’s the same mindset we champion at Wild Capital Academy.
