Only 36% of people globally are emotionally intelligent

And 90% of top performers at work have high emotional intelligence

Never speak out of anger, Never act out of fear, Never choose from impatience, But wait… and peace will appear.

Guy Finley

Dear Friends,

Did you know that only 36% of people globally possess high emotional intelligence?

Yet, 90% of top performers at work are endowed with this invaluable trait.

According to Harvard Business School, emotional intelligence stands as the strongest predictor of performance in the workplace.

Let us decompose this term in more detail.

Emotional intelligence is our capacity to navigate social situations, manage our behavior, and make effective decisions, particularly in the realm of interpersonal interactions.

This multifaceted skill encompasses four core competencies, which are grouped into two main categories: personal and social competence.

A) Personal competence centers on self-awareness and self-management, emphasizing the understanding and regulation of one's own emotions and behavior:

Self-awareness entails the ability to recognize and comprehend one's emotions accurately, acknowledging their impact on thoughts and actions.

Self-management builds upon this awareness, enabling individuals to use it as a tool for maintaining flexibility and directing behavior in a positive and constructive manner.

B) Social competence revolves around social awareness and relationship management, focusing on perceiving and understanding the emotions of others while effectively managing interactions:

Social awareness entails the keen perception of emotions in others, coupled with an understanding of their underlying motivations and perspectives.

Relationship management leverages this awareness to navigate interactions skillfully, fostering positive and meaningful connections with others while effectively addressing potential conflicts or challenges.

Emotional intelligence is particularly crucial for leaders, and here's why:

✔️ Enhanced Communication: Leaders with high emotional intelligence excel at effective communication, tailoring their messages to resonate with diverse individuals.

✔️ Improved Collaboration: They foster teamwork and trust, encouraging open communication and cooperation among team members.

✔️ Conflict Resolution: Emotionally intelligent leaders adeptly navigate and resolve conflicts, remaining composed under pressure and finding mutually beneficial solutions.

✔️ Employee Engagement: By connecting with team members on a personal level, they promote job satisfaction, engagement, and loyalty.

✔️ Reduced Turnover: Creating a positive work environment through emotional intelligence leads to lower turnover rates as employees feel valued and supported.

It enables leaders to cultivate a supportive and cohesive work environment, build trust and rapport with team members, and effectively navigate complex interpersonal dynamics.

Leaders with high emotional intelligence are better equipped to inspire and motivate their teams, foster collaboration, and drive organizational success.
