Hello,

I had a powerful conversation recently over lunch with one of my investor friends.

We dove into the investment insights of most successful investors.

And today I want to share the top 10 investment principles from Ray Dalio.

Dalio built the world’s largest hedge fund managing over $160 billion.

So I condensed his 10 best insights into the following points, let’s jump in:

1. Diversify Intelligently

Never put your eggs in one basket - don’t rely on one asset or market.

There is no single asset class that outperformed the others in every single year.

2. Study Economic Cycles

Understand where we are - inflation, deflation, debt expansion, deleveraging.

Cycles drive markets. Learn to recognize them.

3. Be Adaptive, Not Attached

Dalio says: “He who lives by the crystal ball will eat shattered glass.”

Be data-driven. Update your thinking fast when reality changes.

Prioritize long-term investing as short-term investing can frequently result in losses.

4. Own Non-Correlated Assets

Gold, bonds, real estate, commodities - these don’t always move with equities.

Use non-correlated assets to reduce risk without killing your upside.

5. Control Your Emotions

Fear and greed ruin portfolios.

Stick to your system, not your feelings.

6. Use a Rules-Based Strategy

Create a clear investment process - don’t just “go with your gut.”

Principles > predictions.

7. Stay Invested Over Time

Time in the market beats timing the market.

Avoid sitting in cash - it quietly loses value to inflation.

8. Focus on System Thinking

Dalio sees the world as a machine.

Learn the mechanics - how interest rates, credit, and money flows work.

9. Keep Learning from Mistakes

Dalio’s formula: Pain + reflection = progress.

Write down what you learn. Adjust.

10. Invest with Purpose

Make sure your capital is working toward your real goals, not just chasing returns.

Build something that lasts.
